Class 6 Graduation Information
Graduation 2023
The Graduation Ceremony for Class 6, 2023 will be held at WCSS on Monday December 11, 6.30pm- 8.00pm
From The College of Teachers
Dear Class 6 Community,
The College of Teachers decided that all graduation ceremonies will take place on our school grounds. We feel that this step would more fully complete the beautiful circle of the child’s school journey and would ground the sense of love, purpose, and community into the very foundations of the school.
This ceremony is a time for the graduating child and their parents to reflect with gratitude upon their journey and say goodbye, not only to their teacher and the other students, but the school itself as they prepare to step out on the next part of their journey. What better place to be than where all those memories were made?
Graduation is also unique and special in that it is a time when the entire community gathers to celebrate what the very purpose of our primary school is; the growth and development of our young charges through six wonderful years full of love, laughter, and learning. Having the ceremony at the school reminds all our community of the love, hard work, and dedication that the staff, parents and students have poured out over decades.
Graduations held at the school will give all our community time to pause and reflect with gratitude, not only on the journey that the individual child has made, but of the journey of our beautiful school itself.
Yours warmly,
The College of Teachers
Class 6 Graduation Guidelines
Class 6 Graduation is acknowledged as a very special event in our school when we formally farewell our Class 6 students as they finish their Primary school journey with us. We very much want it to be a memorable occasion for the students, however it is important to remember that the children are still young (despite what they may think) and will have another more formal graduation when they conclude their schooling in high school. With this in mind, we have created the following guidelines for all.
- The Class 6 Graduation Ceremony is organised by West Coast Steiner School, led by the Class 6 Teacher and with support, as requested, from the parent body.
- WCSS choses the graduation date and decides on the venue.
- The children should wear age-appropriate clothing. More formal party dress is fine but ball gowns, make up and extravagant hair styles and shoes are not suitable. Save these for special high school occasions in later years if you wish. It is also not appropriate for children to be arriving in limos. This expense is not necessary at this stage of their schooling and detracts from the real meaning of the occasion for the graduating children. We need to resist the commercialisation of this event for our children and embrace the beauty in the simplicity of childhood, in this last breath of childhood.
- If the Class Teacher wishes to have a parent speech or speeches, they will invite parents to do this.
- The Class Teacher will let the parent body know what jobs they would like to delegate.
- Parents are often asked to organise the decorating of the space with flowers, fairy lights, bunting etc.).
- Parents organise the gifts for their Class Teacher and the Class Teacher organises gifts from the class for Specialist Teachers and any staff members that the students wish to acknowledge and thank. If parents wish to give an individual gift from their child to any staff member, that is their choice.
- Parents are solely responsible for the design, making and cost of any Yearbook. A Yearbook is customarily donated to the school for inclusion in the Yearbook Library. Samples of Yearbooks from past years can be made available to parents.
- Parents are solely responsible for the organisation and cost of any post-graduation dinner/party/celebration if they wish this to be held. The school holds the formal ceremony but once this concludes the remainder of the evening is at the parents’ discretion.
We hope these guidelines will help the Class 6 community to plan for this very special time and we look forward to a beautiful, heartfelt Class 6 Graduation Ceremony this year.
