Wandju - Welcome to Term 3
Wandju - Welcome to Term 3
Kaya WCSS Community
Welcome to Term 3 2023 which commences for the children on Monday 17 July at 8.30am. A special welcome to the new families who are joining our community this term. I look forward to meeting you all. I hope everyone has enjoyed some quality family time over the break and that you are relaxed and ready for the new term.
Staffing News
We are happy to be welcoming Donna back to her teaching position in Class 3 after an absence last term. Elaine Meyer is replacing Holly in Class 5 for the remainder of the year. David Hammond, our Games and Extension Teacher in Primary classes, will return in Week 3. Mel Lenzi has replaced Sally in the Library. These staff are all well known to the children and we look forward to their contributions.
There are many interesting things planned for this term which culminates in the Walkathon, the Primary Michaelmas Festival, and the Kindy Spring Festivals. Eurythmist Nicole Peterson, will run intensive Eurythmy classes for our students in Weeks 6 – 10, school photos are taken in Week 9 and most classes have incursions and excursions planned. I encourage you to keep the evening of Wednesday 13 September free for our annual Curriculum Journey which gives a wonderful and fun-filled insight into our Steiner curriculum across the Primary years, helping to explain why we do what we do and giving you a taste of the learning your children experience.
Please keep an eye on the newsletter sent each fortnight to find out more about what is going on. It is our major means of communicating with you. A reminder that both Vanessa and I very much value working with you to create the best learning experience for your children and our doors are almost always open if you want to chat or ask questions about anything. We also hold a weekly informal Yarning Circle at The Hub, which for this term will move to Wednesday mornings from 8.40am.
May our new term together be lived with warmth of heart, honesty, and gratitude.
With warmth

In the Light of a Child – Michael Hedley Burton
When winter wraps a mantle dark and drear
Around the world beyond my own warm hearth,
Then am I called to rise and conquer fear,
And bravely meet this darkness in my path.
My light each day in brightness is increasing.
Its glow of warmth reveals the stir of life.
The light-stream of my heart is never-ceasing.
And so, I’m strong, come grief or pain or strife.
SAVE THE DATE - THE CURRICULUM JOURNEY 2023

Administration Matters
School Arrival and Dismissal Times and Attendance
Although school commences at 8.30am, we ask that students do not arrive before 8.15am when there is a teacher on duty in the playground. Any students who do arrive before this time, will need to sit quietly on a bench outside the office and read or chat, so that someone can keep an eye on them until the Duty Teacher commences at 8.15am. They cannot be in the playground unsupervised. Any children in the playgrounds before 8.15am needs to be directly supervised by the parents.
School finishes at 3.05pm (2.15pm on Thursdays). Parents should pick their children up promptly from outside the classroom or at Kiss and Drive on Mayfair St. Children should go straight to meet their parents or carers after school rather than being unsupervised in the playgrounds or Hub after school. Someone will be on duty in Kiss and Drive until 3.25pm each day. Just a reminder that Kiss and Drive is a traffic flow zone for the safety and benefit of all. Please drive with care and do not park and leave your car in this area under any circumstances.
Regularly attending school is compulsory for children from Kindy 6 - Class 6 and there is a legal requirement that parents ensure their children attend school for approximately 90% of the time. We understand that sometimes there are family circumstances, appointments, illnesses or special considerations that may impact on this and it is important that you communicate these to us. Your teacher will discuss any concerns about absences with you and will work with you to ensure your children attend regularly. At times you may receive an official notification that your child’s absence is a cause for concern, and I am always happy to discuss this with you individually.
Arriving on time to start the school day calmly is also very important for our rhythms and routines and has a significant impact on children’s learning and emotional wellbeing. Please ensure your children are at school every day (provided they are well) and aim to have them here for an 8.30am start. Being on time provides support for your child, their classmates and teacher and creates a feeling of inclusion and community. We are building a lifetime of good, respectful habits in this one rhythmic gesture. Please report any absences to Reception.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES ON CAMPUS
A gentle reminder as we start a new school term that as a Steiner school we strive to cherish childhood. One way we do this is by bringing to the children only natural, healthy and real experiences, and by being present to the moment and modelling behaviours. Please refrain wherever possible from using mobile phones, laptops or other devices when on campus.
