Primary Makuru Winter Festival Information
Makuru Winter Festival Program
The Makuru Winter Festival is a festival of quiet and introspection. Please assist us by maintaining an atmosphere of reverence and awe throughout the evening. As tempting as it is to take advantage of the time to catch up with relatives and friends, we ask that you save this for another time. Your children (with their Teachers) need to stay with you for the whole evening, for the walk and bonfire. Quiet and the absence of phones and cameras will ensure a special time for all. This is a Festival for our Primary students, the kindergarten children have their own festivals and should be tucked up warm at home.
Please dress warmly – beanies, mittens etc are advised. Be mindful that there are candles lighting paths. Skirts or other draping clothing is not recommended.
Program:
5.45pm Teachers, children and parents arrive quietly and gather in their classrooms. Class Teachers will light the lanterns in readiness for the Festival.
5.55pm Teachers lead their students and parent group onto the quadrangle ready for the opening of the Festival.
6.00pm Festival begins
* Acknowledgement
* Welcome Verse by Class 6
* Fire Blessing by Class 6
* Choir sings as one by one, each class makes their way through the indoor spiral and follows the lit path to the lantern walk.
* Students and families return from the lantern walk and gather on the veranda outside their classrooms.
* Class 6 perform the Fire Dance and light the bonfire.
* Whole school sings
* Festival ends and everyone departs quietly for home.
Please leave straight after the Festival. Going straight home and avoiding socialising with friends and family, will deepen the experience for your child and our community.
Your child has already made a lantern in class and is learning the festival songs. Below are the songs so that you may learn them before the festival.
We look forward to sharing this beautiful evening with you.
With warmth
