Wandju - Welcome to Term 3
Kaya WCSS Community
We hope you have enjoyed a restful break and that the wintry Makuru weather has given you opportunity to relax and rejuvenate and spend special time with your families. We have started to notice the yellow wattles and their promise of Djilba and warmer weather just around the corner!
This term we welcome back returning staff and families, and families new to WCSS, and look forward to walking together as a community guided by goodness, beauty and truth.
School resumes on Monday July 18, and although we have been busy over the break, we have missed the sounds and smiles of our students. As we commence this new semester we ask parents and caregivers to work with us on ensuring students learn the benefits of punctuality and pride in their appearance. Lateness is disruptive to individual students and the class as a whole; now is the time to endeavour to set lifelong patterns for the children. Rhythm is fundamental in a Steiner school and is found in all of nature. An established rhythm carries a strength in itself that supports students, familes and teachers. We would also like to remind parents of our dress code. Students are not required to wear a uniform but our dress code is as follows:
Clothing is to be plain in colour without any printing, advertising, numbers, pictures or caricatures. Rainbow colours are suggested. Natural fibres such as wool or cotton are most beneficial for children. Black is not to be worn. School t-shirts are available from Golden Threads in the colours of the week to make life that bit easier!
We are excited to announce the launch of Schoolzine and the SZAPP App this term. Many other Steiner schools are using the app as a streamlined way to communicate with parents and caregivers. We hope this makes your school admnistration easier and strengthens your connection to happenings at school. Details on how to downoad the free app are listed below. If you cannot or do not wish to engage with the app the existing methods of communication will remain in place.
Warm wishes,
WCSS Administration

For example, newsletters will still be emailed and accessible via the school website and absences can be reported via email or phone. SZAPP is a streamlined system for those who wish to use it.

AUSTA STRING FESTIVAL
Dear Parents,
The AUSTA Festival is going ahead again this year. The festival is a wonderful performance opportunity outside of school for soloists and small ensembles. This year the festival will take place on August 28. Last year some students from WCSS performed in small groups or individually and had a great experience. There is an application fee which is well worth it as that includes the opportunity to perform, feedback from a professional musician, a certificate, a medal and if they choose to play a piece with accompaniment, the pianist on the day.
If your child would like to perform I can help them to choose a suitable piece and help them to prepare for the performance. I will also be there on the day for any of my students who are performing.

In the Light of the Child
When winter wraps a mantle dark and drear
Around the world beyond my own warm hearth,
Then am I called to rise and conquer fear
And bravely meet this darkness in my path.
My light each day in brightness is increasing.
Its glow of warmth reveals the stir of life.
The light-stream of my heart is never-ceasing.
And so I'm strong, come grief or pain or strife.
