Cancelled | Primary Makuru Winter Festival
Dear Families,
After closing monitoring the weather forecast and a thorough risk assessment, we have cancelled our Primary Makuru Winter Festival which was scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, June 20.
School will still finish at 12.30pm tomorrow for all students.
The current forecast is showing heavy rainfall, very high winds and a strong chance of a thunderstorm. The safety of the Class 6 children who perform the fire dance, and all in our school community, is at the forefront of our rare decision to cancel the festival.
Staff will prepare a spiral in the Performance Room which classes will walk with their teachers during school hours on Friday. We warmly invite parents to walk the spiral tomorrow, before pick up, from 12:00pm - 12.30pm . Please remember to remain in silence for the duration of your time in the Performance Room, respecting others who may be walking at the same time.
Class 6 students will perform their fire dance on Wednesday, June 25 commencing at 5.30pm. After the dance they will light the bonfire and we will sing some songs. Primary school families are every welcome to attend this performance. Please note duty of care will be with parents/caregivers and so children will need to remain with you for the entire evening which will conclude at approximately 6.30pm.
The Winter Festival is deeply embedded in our school as an opportunity for families to pause, reflect, and carry light into the darkness of the winter season. We encourage you to find ways to mark and embrace the solstice with your families at home.

To be a torch,
To bear the Spirit's light
Into the dark night
Of a wintry world blessing and blest."
